The Information & Communications Technology Assistant reports and is under the direct supervision of the National Information & Communication Technology Officer.
ACCOUNTABILITIES : Within delegated authority, Senior Information Technology Assistants will be responsible for the following duties :
- Guide, train and supervise staff maintaining inventory of material and/or database of information, such as, compute related equipment, communications equipment, website content, training material, etc. ;
- Guide, train and supervise staff maintaining logs or archives of information, such as computer related logs, trouble tickets, directories, registries, data warehouses, reports, etc. ;
- Deploy and/or disseminate standard material, such as, computer hardware, HF and VHF radios and/or software, applications, programs, directories, telephony, web content, publications, database content, training material, etc. ;
- Maintain systems and equipment by carrying out specialized tasks and supervising staff carrying out routine tasks, such as backing up data, monitoring network and systems, servers and peripherals, running systems diagnostics, patch management and system optimization, removing viruses and bad data, etc. ;
- Monitor system, databases and applications ;
- Resolve a variety of problems and/or assist in resolution of problems by identifying and forwarding issues to the appropriate person ;
- Train and support users of technology and systems, such as audio/videoconferences, meetings, databases, registries, networks, etc. ;
- Evaluate, develop, and recommend procedures. Participates in discussions one new/revised procedures and practices ; interprets and assesses the impact of changes and makes recommendations on follow up actions ;
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
RESULTS EXPECTED :
Well managed and supervised support staff in a country office; timely administrative support in general and specialised areas.
CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS :
Sound judgment; ability to extract, interpret, analyse and format data and to resolve operational problems. Ability to work with minimum of supervision; to supervise a train support staff; and to work effectively with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. Ability to work with accuracy under time constraints and pressure; to deal patiently and tactfully with staff members and others and to have a high sense of confidentiality, initiative and good judgment. Good administrative and supervisory skills; ability to plan and organize work and to train and motivate support and administrative staff in a country office.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Education : Level BAC + 2 ; Secondary school education supplemented by technical training in electronic or telecommunications, computer technology or other related field.
- Experience : At least six years of progressively responsible job related experience in information technology or telecommunications or information management, such as, WAN/LAN networking, operating systems, telephone services, radio unit, web design, registry or similar and at least one year at the G6 level or equivalent. Some experience in client support, such as, a Help Desk or User Support Unit, web design team, telephone maintenance service, e-marketing group, hotline, or similar.
- Knowledge : Training and/or experience utilising computers, including word processing, spreadsheet and other standard WFP software packages and systems. General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and procedures governing human resources administration.
- Language : Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different.
- Desirable skills : Experience working in an international organization or multicultural environment. Postsecondary school studies in an institute specialized in information technology or telecommunications or information management or ITIL training.
